Printing Shapes and Sizes FAQ
What is the most popular print size?
Our most popular print size is 4x6 glossy prints.
This is the classic standard photo size most people expect when ordering prints from film. It works well for family photos, snapshots, albums, frames, and general everyday use.
What print sizes do you offer?
Our standard photo printers can print:
4x6 glossy prints
5x7 glossy prints
5x5 square prints
4x7 APS-format prints
For larger prints, we can also print:
8x10
11x17
13x19
Larger prints are not currently available as standard website options and must be requested separately.
What is 4x7 printing for APS film?
APS film has a native image shape that is slightly different from standard 35mm film.
For APS scans, 4x7 prints better match the native APS frame ratio. This can help avoid unnecessary cropping compared with forcing the image into a standard 4x6 shape.
Can you print square images?
Yes. We can print 5x5 square prints.
This is useful for square-format images from certain medium-format cameras, toy cameras, or cropped digital files. If your images are square and you want them printed without cropping into a rectangle, 5x5 is usually the best option.
What printing technology do you use?
For prints up to 5x7, we use dye-sublimation photo printers.
Dye-sub prints are durable, consistent, and ideal for standard photo sizes. They produce smooth, glossy prints and are well suited for everyday photo printing.
For larger prints up to 13x19, we use our Canon Bubblejet photo printer. Larger prints are handled by special request only.
Are your prints fade resistant?
Yes, our dye-sub prints are fade resistant when stored and displayed properly.
Like most photo prints, they should not be left in direct sunlight for long periods of time. A few weeks of direct sunlight can cause visible fading. For best long-term results, keep prints in albums, boxes, frames, or areas away from strong direct sunlight.
Our larger Canon Bubblejet prints are also fade resistant under normal display conditions, but they should be handled more carefully than dye-sub prints.
Are your prints water resistant?
Our dye-sub prints are highly water resistant. They can usually be underwater for 10–15 minutes without damage.
However, they are not designed to stay wet for long periods of time. Extended soaking can eventually cause the backing layers to peel or separate.
Our larger Canon Bubblejet prints are not as water resistant. Even a few water droplets can damage the surface, so larger prints should be handled carefully and kept dry.
Can you make custom print sizes?
Yes. Custom print sizes are available by special request.
This can include:
Wallet prints
Panoramic prints
Square prints
Custom crops
Custom shapes or layouts
Custom print sizes may require additional setup time and may not be available through the normal website checkout. Please contact us before ordering if you need a custom size.
Do you offer index prints?
Yes. Index prints are available by request.
Index prints are $2 extra and must be requested when placing your order. They are not automatically included with developing or scanning.
